Follow my vacuum gauge interpetations and service tips for the best running car or truck you ever had

A vacuum gauge tells you about

  • Piston ring condition.

  • Valve sealing ability.
  • Wear condition.
  • Combustion efficiency.
  • Catalytic converter.
  • Timing function.
  • Transmission shifting.
  • Vacuum hose or component leakage.

Suction is created by two conditions

  1. The intake valve must be open to let the fuel mixture in.

  2. The piston must be going down from it highest or top position.

Low suction is created by many conditions - primarily

  1. The intake or exhaust valve is still closing - but not close when the piston is going up on the combustion stroke.

  2. The piston rings and valves are sticking and piston rings let combustion escape down to where the oil is.

Remedy this problem by following the tips on the links below.

However,

What I find most people want to know about is not what the gauge indicates, but what can you do for my motor???
Proceeding on this line of thought
You can learn what to do for those conditions by going to this page which cover the product that ends the dozen or so conditions that lower vacuum.

Most mechanics do not use a vacuum gauge as they are taught to change bad parts - not maximize your cars performance and dependability.

Low vacuum conditions deter power, and cause some form of idling, running, age, oil burning, or mileage problem.

A vacuum gauge shows
The amount of a motors suction - good or bad, when it is running. The most suction means the motor is at peak everything.

The amount of suction shown on a vacuum gauge by a needle pointing to numbers - from zero to 25.

This tool has a rubber hose that is connected to a hose on the motor having suction. There may be many such hoses operating motor devices, or few.

When pulled lose an audible sound is heard by the sucking action pulling air into the disconnected hose end. A finger over the end of the hose will seal off the suction; plainly felt against your finger.

A good, clean motor

Will have 20 to 23 inches of vacuum at idle, at 1500 rpm, and at 2000 rpm - The 3 places a reading should be taken.

Age, wear, friction increase, sticky dirty, rings, valves, combustion area, and emission device parts will cause conditions such the vacuum readings will drop for those very same engine speeds.

Most cars a few years old will lose a half inch of vacuum and the gauge will read lower - but you never know how much - such no previous record is given.

After 100,000 to 125,000 miles

The gauge reading will drop more because the wear and tear adds more vacuum lowering factors.

Between 70,000 to 200,000 miles

The gauge reading on the average goes down to18 to 16 inches of vacuum. The motor will have many problems - a tune up and a Mega Power Cleaning Treatment like this link suggest, will be needed, to restore like-new to your motor again.

For the best tune up ever,

Follow my Mega Power Tune Up Tips.

You do not need a vacuum gauge, but you do need a special kind of piston, bearing, valve, lifter and other critical areas cleaned, freed, smooth, coated and protected to gain highest vacuum reading possible.

That is what Mega Power ingredients will give you - and should you do a before and after reading, you will see a 1/2 inch to 4 inches more vacuum. You do want the highest reading and these products are famous for providing just that.

Follow the links on this page. The tips and products suggested will increase the readings to the highest possible.
